BJP Graduate Emily Reader making the move to ITV

IMG_3042I left university as a Spanish graduate knowing that it was broadcast journalism that I wanted to pursue. I’d been lucky enough to secure some work experience at local tv and radio stations but knew I needed to get a BJTC accredited qualification to better my chances of finding a job.

Having already done 4 years at University I was reluctant to spend a further year studying a Masters, so the Bauer Journalism Programme was a perfect alternative.

I’m currently working at Metro Radio, Bauer’s station based in Newcastle and without doubt owe my job to completing the course. From Wednesday to Friday I report, then on the weekend I read the breakfast news bulletins from 7 in the morning until 1pm.

When on the reporter shift, I enjoy going out and about meeting people and hearing all their stories. I most enjoy putting together news packages as they give me the opportunity to use my creative writing to make the story come to life.

I absolutely love my job, no two days are the same.

From October I’ll be starting a new job with ITV on their journalism trainee scheme meaning I’ll be trained in each department of the newsroom and even learn to self-shoot news packages.

I use skills I learnt on the Bauer Journalism Programme every day at work and would recommend it to any budding journalists.
