Latest news from Bauer Journalism Programme graduate Natalie Bell

natalie-bell-001It was back in 2007, shortly after starting Hull University to study media, that I knew I wanted to become a broadcast journalist.

I’d just started a 2-week work placement on the news desk at local station, Viking FM, and loved it that much – I helped out on all of my days off for four years.

I’d gained so many skills but knew I needed to fully qualify in the field which is what led me to studying for a BJTC at the National Broadcasting School (now the Bauer Academy) in Brighton.

This course was so appealing as it was short but intense and was based in a live newsroom. I found the training invaluable; from the reporting, news reading, voice coaching and not forgetting the vital legal training.

Soon after qualifying, I landed internships at BBC London, ITV Calendar and then started working for the Lincs FM Group across Yorkshire. Two years down the line I then moved to Viking FM (back where it all started) as their Multi-media News & Sports Reporter. I get to report on so many different stories; including through the night coverage of the general election as well as 10 trips to Wembley covering our local football and rugby teams. No two days are the same and I feel incredibly lucky to be doing my dream job!
