The NBS Mentors are:
Paul Chantler has been a professional journalist, broadcaster and radio executive for 25 years. He is now a radio consultant specialising in news, and works for a number of major broadcast companies throughout the UK and Europe.
Paul was Group Programme Director for The Wireless Group and was responsible for all the local and regional stations, as well as for talkSPORT. He was also Group Programme Director of the Chiltern Radio Network and, later, of the Essex Radio Group.
He has launched big radio stations such as Galaxy 101 and Vibe FM and, in 1997, was named UK Commercial Programmer of the Year.
Paul is the co-author of a successful textbook on radio journalism called Basic Radio Journalism.
Mark Sandell is an Editor of BBC World Service News Programmes. Previously, he was a senior editor on BBC 5Live where he produced the award-winning Nicky Campbell Show and 5Live Breakfast.
Mark started his career on the commercial radio station in Brighton at Southern FM, before moving to Capital Radio, where he produced "The Way It Is", the station's award-winning news magazine.
Chris Shaw is the Senior Programme Controller of Channel 5 TV responsible for News, Current Affairs and Documentaries. Chris launched the news service and won three Royal Television Society awards during its first year on-air. Since then, he has been responsible for more than 1,000 hours of factual programming.
Chris started his career as a radio journalist before moving to ITN where he was subsequently Home and Foreign news editor. He was also Editor of Channel 4 news where he devised and launched the innovative Big Breakfast news service.
